Client Feature: Amelia Shepherd
Amelia Shepherd is a freelance photographer specialising in documentary, travel reportage and portrait photography. Living in Brighton, Amelia explores the role of representation in documentary photography where the interface between artist, participant and audience is intermingled. She frequently chooses a collaborative approach with her subjects to investigate narratives with multiple voices.
As a portrait and documentary photographer she has a track record for creating engaging and compelling exhibitions and we have been lucky enough to work with her to produce her Taylor Wessing entry this year.
"This self portrait continues my exploration of identity and motherhood. I've been documenting the physical, emotional and psychological shifts I've encountered throughout my pregnancies and entry into motherhood. This image represents a time of turmoil and confusion for me in my 'new skin'. The mask acting as a shield to protect me against uncertainty and the outside world as well as represeting the duality of my identity. I wanted the image to be provocative and create tension. It alludes to my masculine warrior persona set in contrast to the feminine pregnant form and therefore challenges how we view women's bodies in public."
